My First Post

This is my first post since deciding to start blogging - actually it's my first post ever.  So please forgive me if this is incredibly boring, I'm sure I'll be able to come up with more interesting stuff as I go.  I wasn't sure what exactly to write about, but a couple people suggested I start a blog, so I decided to.

So I'm going to start with a little about me and what's going on in our life right now.  My name is Samantha and I've been married to my husband, Mark, since September of 2007.  We have a 4 week old baby boy named Preston.  I graduated from Purdue University in August of 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Graphics Technology.  This is probably the broadest degree possible in the IT/Computer Graphics field - but I focused on web design.  Right out of college I got a great job at a small consulting company in Chicago doing document management.  Mainly I did a lot of web service development.  It was a great starting point.  I decided to leave once my husband got a job in Grand Prairie, TX.

We moved down to Texas shortly after our wedding and I took a job at a property management company.  I hated it!  I did very little development, but I got really good at workflow management.  Boring!  I quickly began looking for a new job.  I had honestly been just happy to have been offered a job when I was moving down to Texas that I took whatever I could get that didn't require a ton of travel.

I found a job as an ecommerce developer at a mid sized electronics distribution company in Fort Worth.  It's amazing how different corporate development is versus consulting.  I really enjoyed the challenge of working with a smaller group of developers as well as learning how to develop for an ecommerce site.  It was while I was with this company that I got pregnant.  Since we had decided that someone was going to stay home with the baby we began the discussion that changed my life.

We decided that I would be the one to stay home with the baby - with the stipulation that I would try to find any freelance work whenever I felt up to it.  My plan for my career has always been to do my own thing, and I figured that this would be a great way to get to this point.  So, here I am 4 weeks after the baby was born and finally starting to feel like myself again, so I decided it was a good time to start blogging.  I will go back a little bit in my next post and talk about the baby, but for now I'm going to sign off and make dinner.
